Walk-In Closet Ideas
Here, we bring you some of our favorite walk-in closet ideas for creating the closet of your dreams. You might even find something that you didn’t know was possible!
Create a Secure Walk-In Closet
Before you start considering other elements, you will want to make sure that your closet is secured. Anchor your closet with a hutch or island and make sure that all wall studs are secured.
Ensure that all elements of your closet are properly installed so that there won’t be any chance of things falling apart unexpectedly. If you are storing items of higher value in your closet, you might even consider incorporating an alarm system, safe, or security video camera.
Separated Closet Areas
You’ll want to think about the function of the closet and what you want in each area. One of our favorite ideas is a his and hers custom closet.
By having separated areas within the closet, you can set it up to clearly define whose things will go where. You might include hanging rods, smaller drawers, or separate laundry baskets on each side. These provide common, useful elements for each person. It’s also a great idea to think about if one person might need a place for jewelry and another a place for things like ties.
Lighting

It’s common for walk-in closets to have limited access to natural lighting which makes your lighting additions important! You can add custom lighting in darker areas so that what you want to wear, or not wear, is more easily visible.
Overhead lighting is also great for adding a touch of elegance to your closet. It’s common to have little room for décor in your walk-in closet which also makes an overhead light a great addition to the overall look and feel of the closet. You might even consider lighting up your mirror for a better look at your outfits.
Mirrors
If your design includes the space, adding a full-length mirror to your closet can be great for trying on clothing, shoes, and accessories. You won’t have to travel very far to check out your outfit head to toe, and can make quick changes – all in your closet!
If you are looking to utilize your closet as a space to get ready, you can include a mirror and perhaps even a sit-down area to get the job done!
Built-in Laundry Baskets
There’s nothing quite as frustrating as dealing with a constant pile of dirty laundry. By incorporating built-in laundry baskets into your walk-in closet you won’t have to go far to toss dirty laundry aside.
It can also be helpful to include multiple laundry baskets for on the spot color sorting, or to divide up bigger piles. You’ll avoid that dreaded dirty laundry pile and even stay more on top of the chore because of it!
Organized Drawer Systems

Having a well thought out plan for your drawer systems is essential to maximize storage and stay organized. Use your closet space wisely with organized drawer systems.
Think about incorporating drawers for each of your items like jewellery and socks. Consider what size of drawer your will need for each. You might even consider adding in drawer dividers or containers to keep your things separated. Drawer dividers can also help with separating different types of the same item like watches or collection items.
Tie, Purse, and Shoe Shelves
Shelving for specific items in your closet can be a great addition to your upgrade! Adjust shelves so that they can properly accommodate your accessories.
You might also choose your shelving based on the size of your accessories. Larger duffle bags, or tall boots could need taller and wider cubbies. Purses and sandals may only need small shelves. Think about the items you are wanting to store before upgrading your closet and how they will best stay organized.
