Are you ready to make some big changes in your home? Maybe a new custom glass shower or creating the walk-in closet of your dreams? The help of professionals can make all the difference, and the process begins with a design consultation.

If you’re new to the world of interior design, you might never have experienced a design consultation before. Today, we’re going to cover what to expect at your design consultation with Coastal Closets & Showers!

Consultations typically take place in-person and in-home where you meet with our designer to view your space. But during COVID-19, we have also started offering virtual design consultations that are just as effective!

Whether it’s virtual or in-person, this consultation helps our team know what it is you want and how we can meet your needs to bring your design to fruition.

Before we discuss what to expect at virtual consultations, let’s discuss our traditional design consultations.

What to expect at an in-person design consultation

Shoe Rack

Prior to your consultation, you’ll contact us to set up an appointment at a scheduled time. Your designer will visit your house at that time, ready to get started! You’ll show them the area you’d like to upgrade, and they’ll ask you a variety of questions.

Here are a few of the questions they might ask depending on the specific project:

  • What features would you like to see included?
  • How do you usually use this space?
  • What is your biggest frustration in this space?
  • What’s working? What’s not?

Your designer will also take measurements of the space and you’ll discuss your budget (there is no fee for a consultation!), as well as realistic expectations for the space.

Your consultation will vary slightly depending on the project.

For example, if we’re working on a custom closet with you, we’ll discuss some of the custom closet accessories that might be right for your lifestyle and home. On the other hand, for new shower doors, we’ll discuss things like whether frameless or semi-frameless shower doors would be best.

You can also ask your design any questions you might have during your design consultation. Many of our clients find it helpful to create a list of questions ahead of time so they don’t forget them!

What to expect at a virtual design consultation

If you’re setting up a virtual design consultation with Coastal Closets & Showers, you can expect many of the same things you’d get from the in-person variety.

Once you book a virtual design appointment, you’ll use our custom measurement guide to provide your designer with a detailed account of your space. This way, we collect accurate measurements of your closet space without ever setting foot in your home!

After submitting the measurements, you’ll get a link to a meeting invite to join your designer on a video call.

During your call, your designer will review your measurements to ensure accuracy for your new custom space. They’ll ask you the same questions as they would during an in-person consultation, and this is also a time for you to ask your own questions and discuss any challenges or ideas for the space.

Once you and your designer have covered all of the important information, you’ll continue working with them directly to create your custom space. And the best part is, it’s all online!

Your designer helps you view your options and make adjustments in real time with a 3-D visual of your custom space!
